The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has suspended the import of poultry and poultry products from Parts of Germany, Spain and Canada.Following outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in OberbergischerKreis, north rhine-westphalia, Germany, Huelva, andalu region, Spain, and Kings county, nova scotia, Canada, the CFS immediately instructed the trade to suspend imports of poultry meat and poultry products (including eggs) from these areas.To protect public health in Hong Kong.A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 470 tonnes of refrigerated poultry meat and about 1.06 million eggs from Germany last year.About 860 tonnes of chilled and refrigerated poultry and about 1.78 million eggs were imported from Spain, and about 1,020 tonnes of chilled and refrigerated poultry from Canada.The spokesman said the CENTRE had contacted the authorities in Germany, Spain and Canada and would continue to closely monitor the information from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and the relevant authorities on the outbreak and take appropriate action according to the development of the local situation.(Media reporter Jin Dong zhou Weiqi)
